What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a medically-prescribed anesthetic with over 50 years of research supporting its safety and effectiveness for therapeutic use. Approved in both Canada and the US, ketamine has emerged as a powerful treatment for mental health conditions, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Unlike traditional treatments, ketamine works quickly, providing rapid relief by promoting neuroplasticity, which helps the brain form new connections and heal from past emotional pain. Its ability to break through mental barriers makes it particularly effective for first responders facing the weight of their experiences.
Why is Ketamine Effective for First Responders?
Ketamine is uniquely effective for first responders because it addresses the mental and emotional strain caused by trauma, PTSD, and anxiety—common challenges in high-stress professions like policing, firefighting, and emergency medical services. By temporarily quieting the brain's defense mechanisms, ketamine allows individuals to access and process deeply held emotions and traumatic memories in a safe, controlled environment. This breakthrough therapy provides first responders with the tools to reconnect with themselves, heal from their experiences, and build the resilience needed to continue serving their communities.

As a former military combat veteran and current police officer, I have endured intense trauma throughout my life—from a troubled childhood to the challenges of the careers I chose. My struggles with PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, and severe insomnia, felt like a relentless battle and was significantly affecting my personal life, my family and adversely affecting my ability in my job. I sought relief through countless treatments, including psychologists, clinical counselors, neurofeedback, sleep specialists, photobiomodulation, cold therapy, meditation, medications, supplements, and lifestyle changes, but nothing seemed to offer lasting improvement. My search for a solution led me to explore alternative therapies, and after hearing about psychedelic therapy on health podcasts, I did my own research and spoke to former veterans who had undergone the therapy. This led me to research clinics within Canada and I discovered Qi Integrated. When I learned that the program was led by Mark Haden, a leading world-renown researcher and pioneer in the field, and top-tier Medical Doctor, Pamela Kryskow, who was also instrumental in pioneering psychedelic therapy and research in Canada, I was confident this was the right path for me. I was right, they helped me save my own life. From my very first session with Qi Integrated Health, the results were remarkable. The therapy provided a level of relief that I had never known before. It allowed me to view my life through a new lens, bringing clarity, gratitude, and a renewed sense of hope. This profound shift has significantly improved my mental health, my mindset and truly changed my life. I now realize that in order to deal with significant traumas and mental health hardships, one has to take a multi-faceted approach to mental health treatment and incorporate several different treatments that have a synergistic effect with each other. To my fellow first responders and veterans, there is always hope, surround yourself with positive and compassionate people, make lifestyle changes, ask for and get/pursue the help you need, be relentless and don’t allow yourself to become disillusioned and fall into the hole of negativity, as you will spiral downhill rather than uphill. You are the community’s warriors, take care of yourself so that you may take care of and raise the people around you. Always remember, Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might… I am profoundly thankful to the team at Qi Integrated Health. Their dedication and groundbreaking approach have been a guiding light during my darkest moments. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for their support in helping me reclaim my well-being and embrace a brighter future.
