Chris Rambaran

My work in the human service field began with a purpose to uplift humanity and alleviate human suffering. Part of this involved policy change and education advocacy for the rights of youth aging out of foster care. Being so close to the pain of those I worked with reflected back the ‘parts’ of me that I carried within, to where I could no longer ignore them. So, I became a seeker to more deeply understand and know thySelf. This led me towards an inward journey with vipassana meditation and psychotherapy.

I have a bachelors and masters degree in social work from the University of British Columbia and am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in BC.

My own inner work is a central part of my ethical care. I continue ongoing supervision and training to tend to my own inner garden, and to more fully respect and appreciate the honor of working alongside with you.

My Approach

In my work with you, I will use approaches that focus on the ways your experiences have affected your sense of self, relationship patterns and coping strategies. This includes a ‘parts’ perspective (IFS) where every repetitive reaction and response to the world developed to manage something that happened in the past, and to avoid pain and to move towards pleasure. In this way, it has value even though it may be creating difficulty in your life. We will work to slow down and turn towards these parts (reactions) to work through how they carry the effects of the past and connect with their intrinsic value.

I will use approaches that help focus on the body-mind interface, so that you can relax into your experience to connect with yourself in a new way - allowing you to attune to and re-sensitize your inner landscape.

Modalities

Drawing from Internal Family Systems (parts work) and narrative therapy, I will orient an approach based on your unique process and circumstances. Through reflection and curiosity, I’ll aim to support your Self-awareness, as we map out and integrate your internal world as it shows up in real time.

I specialize in developmental trauma and substance use as a former social worker in child protection, to then training as a therapist. I am trained and experienced with psilocybin and ketamine-assisted therapy and can support clients through the Special Access Program (SAP), as well as integrating previous psychedelic experiences.
